Fantastic Indoor Games to Keep Your Kids Busy

Jul / 23 / 2019

When bad weather forces you to stay inside with your kids, it can be hard to find activities that allow them to burn off excess energy. Luckily, we’ve prepared an extensive list of great indoor games to help keep your kids occupied

If the rain lasts for more than a day, it’s highly likely that your kids won’t accept to stay inside no matter what games you come up with. When that happens, there’s only one thing you can do – look for great indoor playgrounds in Chandler, AZ!

Fortunately, your search won’t take too long. Simply take your kids to Uptown Jungle and relax in our parents’ lounge while they enjoy a variety of activities designed to help kids blow off their energy.

What games can kids play inside?

A sunny day spent outside is almost always better than one spent indoors, especially if you’re a kid. And if your only solution for keeping your kids occupied when it’s raining outside is to let them stare at a screen for hours on end, you’re not doing them any favors.

Here’s what you can do instead:

  • Create an obstacle course: you can get really creative with this one. Use chairs, cushions, gym mats or anything else you have in your home to make a fun obstacle course your kids will love.
  • Build Lego towers: organize a tower building competition with Legos or any other kind of blocks. Whoever makes the tallest tower without it falling over is the winner!
  • Have an inchworm race: wrap your kids in saran wrap up to their shoulders and lower them carefully on the floor with their face down. Then have them race across the room imitating an inchworm.

What are the best indoor games?

Need more ideas for keeping your kids engaged? No problem! Read on to discover some more indoor activities for kids perfect for a rainy day.

Animal walks

When you want to get the kids moving, animal walk races are a great option. Frog jumps, crab walk, and bear walk are just some of the variations. No matter which animal your kids choose to imitate, this activity is a phenomenal way to have some gross motor play.

Pillow jousting

Prepare the room by placing some pillows on the floor for safety. Ask your partner to join you in pretending to be a horse and let the kids get on your back, locking their feet under your body if possible. Have the kids joust with pillows, attempting to knock their opponent off the “horse”.

Balancing competition

Get some balance cushions or small pillows and encourage your children to stand on them trying to balance on one leg. Use your phone as a timer to give the game a competitive edge. Whoever manages to balance on one leg the longest wins!

How can kids play indoor games?

If you don’t mind putting in some time and effort, the possibilities for entertaining your children are endless. While some activities don’t take more than 5 minutes to prepare, others may take slightly longer but will ensure unparalleled levels of fun.

The detective game

This activity may take up to 15 minutes to prepare but can usually keep the children engaged for at least half an hour. To make it work, you’ll need to find an item to hide and create a set of clues that will lead the child to the hidden object. The clues can be in the form of questions or riddles appropriate for your kid’s age. Hide the clues around the house and start the game!

What’s in the box?

Find a box and have the kids decorate it if they wish to do so. Next, gather a set of items of different sizes, textures, and shapes and place them in the box. Blindfold the participants and tell them to feel the items in the box using their hands and try to guess what the object is. The participant with the closest guess is the winner.
